Synopsis

How does this millenial art live on ? Through science, research, passion and even contemporary art, it continues to amaze us.

The journalist Melody Szymczak leads us through the emblematic sites of « Romanesque life » and reveals the methods used to promote and enhance this heritage.

Travelling through the region of Poitou-Charentes, we discover the processes by which this artistic heritage is being restored and preserved. We head to Lichères, a small, recently restored rural church, then to Angoulême, where the future restoration of the cathedral’s facade required an innovative study. Finally, we head to Cressac-Saint-Genis, where mural paintings are in the process of being restored.

We then head to the Abbey of Saint-Amant-de-Boixe, where the mediations bring Romanesque art to life and stimulate the interest of the public, both young and old.

We also discuss the possible links between the arts throughout history. At Saint-Hilaire-de-Melle, a contemporary altar created by a young designer blends in with the artistic heritage of the 12th century.

Our trip ends at the Abbey of Saint-Savin, during the opening night of the Romanesque Nights, on June 28, 2014. A huge audience of all ages attended the performances :
- Musical prelude by Nguyen Viet Trung
- Migrations, an outdoor pyrotechnic performance and theatrical work by Groupe F.

The Romanesque heritage is alive and well !
